Feeding Programmes

The school feeding program aims to provide nutritious and balanced meals to children at highly subsidized costs to improve their nutritional status and increase school enrolment, retention, and performance. By providing nutritious meals, the program seeks to support not only the physical health of students but also their educational achievements.

Kipawa began supporting the feeding programme at Mukuyu School and now also feeds children in Mutundu school as well.

Children attending the schools receive a porridge breakfast and a nutritious lunch. Between these two meals they receive 80% of their recommended daily nutrition. These meals cost between just 7p and 41p each and a percentage of the costs is covered by families who can afford to contribute.

Since Kipawa was established in 2010, the Mukuyu school roll has increased from 400 to over 700. The headmaster puts much of this down to the work the Kipawa feeding programme is doing in the school.

It costs around £2 a month to feed a child and we provide 600 breakfasts and 700 lunches each day across both schools. The impact this has on each child's education and their family's life is immeasurable.
