Scottish Golf’s Hidden Highland Gems
Brora - Established in 1891, this James Braid designed course is recognised as one of his finest works. Featuring Braid’s original design, the course is the perfect balance of challenging and fun, whilst its setting on the edge of the North Sea provides breathtaking views on each of the 18 holes.
Golspie - Alternating between links, heathland, woodland and even parkland, this is another of James Braid’s designs. With stunning views out over the North Sea, and the towering presence of Ben Bhraggie with it’s statue of the 1st Duke of Sutherland, this is a course not to be missed!
The Struie - Sister to Royal Dornoch’s Championship course, the Struie is ranked in the 50 top links courses in Scotland. First built in 1923, the 'Low Course' offers its own unique challenges, with tight fairways, smaller greens and the meandering Dornoch Burn to contend with.
The Historic Town of Dornoch
Situated an hour’s drive north of Inverness on the east coast of the northern Highlands, Dornoch is a beautiful location for the perfect Scottish get-away.
Often referred to as the St Andrews of the north, it boasts miles of golden sandy beach, the most northerly Cathedral on the British mainland, a 13th Century bishop’s palace and, of course, a famous golf course! The University of the Highlands and Islands also has a campus here.
Stroll the historic sandstone streets, browse the attractive shops or relax with a spa treatment. While dining you can sample delicious local shellfish, meat and game at the selection of hotels and restaurants. Dornoch even boasts its own malt whisky distillery, and the Castle Hotel’s whisky bar has twice won SLTN Whisky Bar of the Year, and is currently ranked as number 1 whisky hotel in the world on whiskybase.com.
