Macheo’s MD Visits Kipawa in Edinburgh
Sarah Mbira, MD of our partner charity, Macheo visited Edinburgh to meet Kipawa’s Trustees and Supporters.
The Kipawa team were delighted to welcome Sarah to Edinburgh during a full-on trip to Europe, during which she met with Macheo’s Board and supporters in The Netherlands before making the short hop over to Scotland for two nights.
First port of call was a welcome reception, where Sarah was greeted by Kipawa donors and trustees. She gave an in depth update on the current situation in Kenya, plus an overview of Macheo’s wide remit of work, supporting struggling families and communities. Sarah stressed the impact of the funds Kipawa provides each year for the school feeding programme, as well as emergency interventions for families who find themselves unable to support their children.
The following day, Sarah was taken on a rather soggy tour of Edinburgh, kindly hosted by our trustee, Bill. Particular highlights were the Castle and John Knox’s statue in St Giles Cathedral. As Sarah explained, there are many churches in Kenya that still boast strong connections to Knox’s Church of Scotland.
The day was rounded off with Kipawa’s monthly Board meeting, where Sarah gave additional updates to the trustees regarding the partnership with Macheo and the various challenges and priorities for the year ahead.
It was a real pleasure for us all to meet Sarah in person and to hear her own personal story of how she became involved in Macheo’s work. We look forward to working closely with her and the team in Kenya.
